As part of the annual Book Week, Dutch authors and poets will perform with the band of guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen. Featuring Kees van Kooten, this year’s Book Week Gift author Esther Gerritsen and vocalist Han Buhrs.

The Brokkenbal at the Bimhuis is an annual tradition: during the Dutch Book Week well-known authors and poets share the stage with guitarist Corrie van Binsbergen and her band. The main guest is Esther Gerritsen, the author of this year’s Book Week Gift. Esther Gerritsen is known for her short stories, novels and columns. In 2014 she won the prestigious Frans Kellendonk prize. The hypnotic, extremely flexible voice of Han Buhrs could be heard in ensembles such as Rubatong and Schismatics. The theme of the 2016 Dutch Book Week is Germany.

In 2003 Corrie van Binsbergen started her very first series of ‘Writers in Concert’ featuring Remco Campert and Toon Tellegen. Her unique style of combining music with literature proved to be successful. Many concert series and performances followed, with various writers and poets from The Netherlands and Flanders. The many spin-off projects include music theatre with Hans Dagelet and opera with Josse de Pauw. All of these activities have spawned a great tradition during Book Week at the Bimhuis, the annual BrokkenBal, a special edition of Writers in Concert with several literary guests. This will be the tenth and last edition.

‘There’s only one BrokkenBal. Guitarist and composer Corrie van Binsbergen is unique as a key figure in the Dutch music scene and she creates a unique concert with stories presented organically by writers, poets and actors’ (Parool).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
