CONTRABAND

Toon de Gouw, Louis Lanzing, Loet van der Lee-trumpets, Willem van Manen, Hans Sparla, Hans Visser-trombones, Patrick Hagen-clarinet, Paul van Kemenade, Rutger van Otterloo, Frans Vermeerssen, Eckard Koltermann-saxophones, Stevko Busch-piano, Gerco Aerts-double bass, Wim Kegel-drums

In this setting, the Contraband looks like a conventional big band but sounds a lot more adventurous. The musical language of the Contraband does not only refer to the American jazz tradition but also to the European and other fields of influence. The band performs original work only, mainly written by Willem van Manen, in a perfect balance between the traditions of jazz and styles that are more free. For this tour composer Guus Janssen also contributed several pieces.
