CONTEMPORARY JEW’S HARP

in collaboration with Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ

OORBEEK & MARK VAN TONGEREN
PLUNK (DANIBAL & R’MON)
J.M. NASIM – THE PSYCHEDELIC JEW’S HARP

From Friday 28th until Sunday the 30th of July the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ is focused on the mouth harp (or Jew’s Harp): one of the oldest, smallest and wide spread musical instruments, bringing back memories of hippie music and to be found in all ages and cultures, not to forget Ennio Morricone’s spaghetti western soundtracks. During this 5th edition of the mouth harp festival, organized by the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ and the International Jew’s Harp Society, hundreds of mouth harp players, builders and researchers from all over the world will find their way to Amsterdam to introduce the Dutch audience to the amazing versatility of this tiny instrument. There is room for musical adventure at the Bimhuis. With Oorbeek you find improvisation without any limits and influences that reach from John Zorn to overtone singing. Plunk stands for Mouth Harp versus Human Beat Box. A surprising musical battle in which everything is possible: hip hop meets world music, pop becomes freestyle. Special guest in this program is J.M. Nasim – The Psychedelic Jew’s Harp.
