COLIN STETSON SOLO

AFTERWARDS DJ SHANE BURMANIA AT THE CAFE
Colin Stetson bassax

Bass saxophone phenomenon Colin Stetson previews his narrative
album All This I Do for Glory. ‘Stetson has manipulated extended
techniques to create brilliantly inventive songs’ (Downbeat).

Colin
Stetson is known as a true sensation on bass saxophone, which he
transforms into a complete brass ensemble including percussion. The
Canadian saxophonist has collaborated with, among others, Arcade Fire,
Tom Waits and David Byrne. His hypnotic solo pieces include impressive
circular breathing techniques, as well as amplification of the
saxophone’s sounds through contact microphones.

On April 28,
Colin Stetson’s new solo album All This I Do for Glory will be released
on his own label 52hz. The album tells a doomed love story in the model
of the Greek tragedies, with music influenced by the ambient electronica
of Autechre and Aphex Twin. Later this year, Colin Stetson will perform
at the Bimhuis with the noise/metal formation Ex Eye.

‘Stetson
demolishes clichés to unleash fresh, unexpected energies. It’s like
being inside an enormous brass tunnel full of windy byways and slamming
valves, at once exhilarating and frightening’ (Pitchfork).
