The Clazz Ensemble is a ‘small big band’ that brings together top musicians from the jazz and classical music fields. Its repertoire balances on the cutting edge of jazz and contemporary composed music. This month’s special guest is New York based composer Frank Carlberg. As a jazz pianist Carlberg has collaborated with Steve Lacy, Bob Brookmeyer and Kenny Wheeler. His Master’s Choice consists mainly of his own compositions this time, aside from various obscure pieces by likeminded composers Gil Evans and George Russell. ‘A valid addition to the Dutch jazz landscape’ (Downbeat).
