The Clazz Ensemble, set up in 2007 by Gerard Kleijn en Dick de Graaff, is a ‘small big band’ that plays works on the cutting edge of jazz and contemporary composed music. The ensemble commissioned works by David Dramm, Jacob ter Veldhuis , Maud Sauer, Frank Carlberg, Nico Langenhuijsen, Michael Moore, Ilja Reijngoud, Dick de Graaf, Marco C. de Bruin, Ig Henneman and Arend Niks for the project called ‘Adventures’. Tonight the ensemble will be presenting the CD ‘Adventures live at the Bimhuis’, a recording of a successful live concert last January. ‘The Clazz Ensemble is one of the most beautiful initiatives taken in recent years. I felt like a bird in the sky when my latest composition Pimpin’ was put on the ensemble’s music stands.’ (Jacob ter Veldhuis). ‘Clazz are strong exponents of new jazz.’ (NRC Handelsblad).
