Christoph Irniger Trio feat. Ben van Gelder

Christoph Irniger tenor sax, Ben van Gelder alt sax, Raffaele Bossard double bass, Antoine Pierre drums

Saxophonist Christoph Irniger is a great promise of Swiss jazz because of his accomplished tenor playing and his clever compositions, which often integrates accessible melodies. He’s often compared to his American colleague Mark Turner, with whom he has collaborated. He also regularly plays with well-known alto saxophonists, such as David Binney and Loren Stillman. Now he will perform with one of the major Dutch alto players, Ben van Gelder.

The Christoph Irniger Trio is completed by double bassist Raffaele Bossard and drummer Ziv Ravitz; the latter has also performed here with his own trio, and has accompanied Lee Konitz for years. Christoph Irniger has appeared in many different line-ups over the years. Alongside his own trio he leads the Pilgrim quintet, and was part of the bands Counterpoint and Cowboys From Hell. Additionally, he has collaborated with jazz stars such as Dave Douglas, Nils Wogram, and Claudio Puntin.
