Great adventurers of early music combine Purcell’s baroque songs with folk and jazz influences in a completely natural way. The ensemble plays period instruments.

Respected compositions by Purcell combined with improvisation and folk music: is that even possible? Christine Pluhar and her ensemble L’Arpeggiata make it sound perfectly natural. Their combination with jazz, folk and improvisations leads to a completely fresh listening experience, making it seem as if many jazz traditions evolved from Purcell’s bass lines. Like no other, Christina Pluhar manages to translate them to adventurous new music.

Harp, theorbo and guitar player Christina Pluhar and L’Arpeggiata are among the great adventurers of early music. The string-based ensemble offers a surprising contemporary view on well-known and obscure baroque music, as if it were meant to be like this.
