CHRISTIAN SCOTT
Christian Scott trompet, Matthew Stevens gitaar, Lawrence Fields piano, Christopher Funn bas, Cory Fonville drums, Special guest: Isadora Mendez-Scott vocals
‘The fiercest jazz trumpeter of today’ (NRC), ‘Jazz’s young style God’ (JazzTimes): Christian Scott convinces everybody. ‘Scott amazes and moves’, said Parool about a previous, sold-out performance at the Bimhuis.
With his recent double album Christian aTunde Adjuah the New Orleans trumpeter pursues his heritage as a Mardi Gras indian. Influences from socially concerned musicians from the 60s and 70s, from Coltrane to Hendrix, come together with contemporary influences from hip-hop and indie rock of, for example, Thom Yorke.
Christian believes it’s self evident for a musician to react to social issues. Racism, violence and globalization are recurring themes in his oeuvre.
The 1983 born trumpeter has learned the tricks of the trade from his uncle Donald Harrison, Jr. and has played with jazz celebrities as well as famous pop artists such as Prince, Jill Scott and Mos Def.
‘A keen social commentator, a sharp trumpet player and an inventive, focused composer’ (Trouw).
