CHRISTIAN SCOTT

Christian Scott trumpet, Matt Stevens guitar, John Escreet piano, Kristopher Funn bass, Jamire Williams drums

Christian Scott, ‘Jazz’s young style God’ (JazzTimes), is not only a fabulous trumpet player and jazz innovator, but also a socially engaged performer. Scott was born in New Orleans in 1983 and grew up keenly aware of the oldest jazz traditions. He was strongly influenced by Miles Davis and John Coltrane, as well as Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. As a teenager he was in demand by artists ranging from Prince to Jill Scott and Mos Def. Currently Scott lives in New York. He received an Edison Award in 2010 for his album Yesterday You Said Tomorrow, which deals with such themes as same sex marriage and institutional racism.
