Christian Sands was still at a very young age when he came to fruition as a pianist. At the age of twelve he already released his first album, and as a teenager he played with the likes of Billy Taylor, Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock. Since then he has covered many stylistic grounds, from swing and classical to funk and hip-hop. Since his album Be Water he takes inspiration from the life lessons of martial arts legend Bruce Lee: be flexible like water and you can achieve anything.
American jazz pianist Christian Sands has been touring and recording for many years in Christian McBride’s bands, such as Inside Straight and Christian McBride Trio. He has also worked with major stars such as Esperanza Spalding and Gregory Porter. Several years ago, the authoritative jazz magazine Downbeat counted Christian Sands among the Downbeat 25 for the Future, the list of artists who point out the directions for tomorrow’s jazz.
