CHRIS SPEED TRIO IFFY
Chris Speed-tenor sax, clarinet, Jamie Saft-organ, synthesizers, Ben Perowsky-drums
The New York saxophonist and clarinet player Chris Speed likes to juggle with various genres like klezmer and music from the Balkans and give it his own twist. This time, he comes up with a line up that refers to the soul jazz from the 60’s. The trio sounds very funky with the mighty Ben Perowski on drums but Chris Speed is too much an adventurer to become nostalgic. With his lively, surprising compositions, Speed dives into whirlwind solos in which he covers a whole range of influences, from Lester Young to Albert Ayler and organ player Jamie Saft revives the spirit of the legendary Larry Young.
