With his large sound, unmistakable swing and never ceasing ingenuity, Chris Potter (35) is one of the most important saxophonists of his generation. Next to his membership in groups of Dave Holland and Dave Douglas he started an impressive solo career of which the newest chapter is dedicated to partly electric groove jazz. ‘His work is remarkably free of cliches and default licks’, wrote Down Beat, ‘daring yet precise, with clean edges and unexpected implications.’
