CHRIS POTTER QUARTET
Wednesday3 May 2017

Chris Potter is a role model for young jazz saxophonists and a leading
voice according to critics and audience alike. ‘A soulful, sophisticated
voice, with a story always in mind’ (Downbeat).

Chris Potter’s
authoritative and endlessly inventive style of playing has gained him
universal acclaim as one of the most important saxophonists of his
generation. His spontaneous solos seem like perfectly rounded
compositions en are being studied and copied note for note. Recently he
was voted Best Tenor Saxophonist of the Year in the Downbeat Readers
Poll.

Potter made a name for himself in the bands of Dave Holland
and Dave Douglas and went on tour with Steely Dan. He was formed by the
great tenor players, such as Lester Young and Sonny Rollins, but his
acoustic quartet also displays influences of soprano player and composer
Wayne Shorter.

‘A tenor saxophonist of sleek harmonic inquiry and superhuman technique’ (New York Times).
