CHRIS LIGHTCAP’S BIGMOUTH

Chris Cheek, Tony Malaby tenorsax, Craig Taborn piano, Chris Lightcap bas, Gerald Cleaver drums

Illustrious five-piece from New York, with a huge sound. Featuring saxophonists Tony Malaby and Chris Cheek, pianist Craig Taborn, double bassist Chris Lightcap and drummer Gerald Cleaver.

Bigmouth holds up to its name, with a frontline of two world class tenor sax players. Tony Malaby and Chris Cheek give character to the band with energetic ensemble playing. The catchy melodies and harmonies, composed by band leader and double bassist Chris Lightcap, are colored in by Craig Taborn on electric piano and Gerald Cleaver on drums. The most recent album Epicenter displays influences of Ornette Coleman, West African music and The Velvet Underground.

‘From start to finish, this music sings’ (Downbeat).

‘Lightcap is a smart composer of driving music; his tunes breathe, with plenty of room for horn interplay’ (NPR).
