THE WINNER – HERMAN SCHOONDERWALT

The CD edition of Herman Schoonderwalt’s legendary album the winner will be presented at the BIMHUIS café. The Philips LP from 1964 had been almost untraceable, but now the Nederlands Jazz Archief (NJA) will re-release the music on a CD in the series Treasures of Dutch Jazz, in a bright stereo mix and including five bonus tracks.

The presentation will bring more attention for the musical life of saxophone and clarinet player Herman Schoonderwalt (1931-1997), with a screening of unique archival film footage and talks by colleagues and regular collaborators such as pianist Jan Huydts and saxophonist Ferdinand Povel. Saxophonist Benjamin Herman will perform compositions by Schoondwerwalt live. Also, Schonnderwalt’s son Rob will add a personal note.

NJA producer Frank Jochemsen will appear as presenter. The limited edition of the CD will have 500 numbered copies. This collector’s item will be on sale on the afternoon itself.
