Catherine Russell
Catherine Russell swims in familiar waters on her new album Send For Me, with timeless songs made famous by the likes of Billie Holiday, Betty Carter, and Nat King Cole. ‘Romance that swings’, as she describes the music herself. On the album she also sheds new light on songs that were previously recorded by her parents, who have both written jazz history themselves.
Catherine Russell was born into jazz royalty: her father Luis Russell was a band leader with Louis Armstrong and her mother Carline Ray played bass with Doc Cheatham. Catherine herself has collaborated with such stars as David Bowie, Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis. Now she has a successful solo career of her own, in which she performs famous and lesser known gems from The Great American Songbook.
