Drummer and instant composer Onno Govaert is given carte blanche at the Bimhuis. Onno Govaert is a crucial member of the Amsterdam jazz scene and part of the youngest generation of improvising musicians playing at underground clubs such as OT301 and Zaal 100.
At a young age Govaert already performed with well-known Dutch jazz musicians. In Amsterdam he developed his relentless playing in bands such as Cactus Truck, which gathered international acclaim. ‘Onno Govaert stokes the band’s fires with spazzy rumbles and unflagging motion’, commented Chicago Reader, and Volkskrant describes his style as ‘full of initiative and uninhibited.’
At the Bimhuis Govaert will perform with two four-pieces, in which several generations of Dutch improvisers will be represented. International guests of note are the like-minded Norwegian drummer Dag Erik Knedal Andersen and the Italian saxophonist Edoardo Marraffa.
The Carte Blanche Series have been realised with the support of Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
