Two poles collide in the work of Jaap Blonk: joyful Dadaist madness expressed in inimitable vocals, and a passion for mathematics, which has led to the use of computer systems to create new work.
Jaap Blonk’s vocal performances are unforgettable. From the Ursonate by dada artist Kurt Schwitters and poetry by Lucebert to his own sound poems and free improvisations: Blonk is internationally renowned for his unique repertory and his impressive vocal range. Additionally, he composes new music with computer and improvises with live electronics. Jaap Blonk’s carte blanche concert at the Bimhuis consist of three sections:
HüBeBlo
Carl Ludwig Hübsch – tuba
Claus van Bebber – grammophone records
Jaap Blonk – voice
This trio is Blonk’s longest-running group and was founded in 2001. Both tuba and voice are amplified with two microphones, which enables an intricate use of stereo. This leads to the creation of unique soundscapes through improvisation.

Groovin’ Irrational
Angelo Verploegen – trumpet, flugelhorn
Joost Buis – trombone
JanWillem van der Ham – alto and baritone sax, bassoon
Jasper Blom – tenor sax, clarinet
Jaap Blonk – computer, voice
New group, new compositions. Using laptop and voice, Blonk leads four renowned horn players through strange worlds. Peculiar grooves, captivating sonic tapestries. No fixed rhythmic patterns, but flexible and interacting with the soloists.
