CARTE BLANCHE IG HENNEMAN – KINDRED SPIRITS

Poetry, jazz and classical music are the key words to describe the oeuvre of viola player/composer Ig Henneman who this month celebrates her 65^th birthday alongside her 25^th anniversary as a band leader With her new international sextet she pays tribute with her show KINDRED SPIRITS to the artists that inspired her, such as Emily Dickinson , Thelonious Monk and Jimmy Guiffre. To top it all off, Henneman, has invited illustrious colleagues for unique guest performances. Reinbert de Leeuw will play Oestvolskayas 5th piano sonate, duo Holst/Bouwhuis will perform Hennemans ‘Chant’ (world première) and Henneman herself will confront punk guitarists Andy Moor en Terrie Hessels (The Ex). ‘Her compositions inspire performances which are anything but ordinary, the collective improvising often breathtaking. The balance between melody and abstraction, rhythmic drive and ballad tones, keeps it all sounding brilliantly right’ (Coda).
