CARMEN SOUZA

Carmen Souza was born in Lisbon and learned to sing in the church choir. She has vigorously maintained a connection with her Cape Verdean roots. On the CD Verdade she sings in Portuguese, as well as in Creole, the native tongue of her parents. Souza’s sensual voice is full of ‘Sodade’, the feeling of yearning and desire. The acoustic music, a mix of blues, jazz and bossa, was composed by renowned Portuguese bass player Theo Pas’cal.
