CARLA BLEY/ANDY SHEPPARD/STEVE SWALLOW/BILLY DRUMMOND THE LOST CHORDS
Carla Bley-piano, Andy Sheppard-saxophones, Steve Swallow-double bass, Billy Drummond-drums
Pianist/composer Carla Bley belongs to the most important composers/arrangers/bandleaders of the postwar jazz. She made her reputation in the mid-sixties as composer for (at that time husband) Paul Bley and after that she wrote jazz-history with her eclectic operas ‘Escalator over the hill’, ‘Tropic Appetites’ and ‘A Genuine Tong Funeral’. Bley aims at the perfect union of jazz, folk music and contemporary composed music. She definitely succeeds in this, also with a small setting, for example with her trio, existing of bass genius Steve Swallow and the British saxophone player Andy Sheppard. After having done two marvellous trio concerts in 2001 and 2002, the group returns as a quartet with drummer Billy Drummond.
