With their long-term project Far East Revisited the Calefax reed quintet and jazz trio Jungle Boldie follow in the footsteps of Duke Ellington. In 1963 Ellington and his big band traveled through the Middle and Far East. He incorporated his experiences in a famous collection of compositions entitled Fear East Suite.
Far East Revisited revives Ellington’s musical expedition. The project takes the eight musicians of both ensembles to the countries that Ellington himself traveled to. During the last few years, tours through Japan, China, India and Turkey have led to collaborations with local composers and soloists. This concert bears the fruits of a recent tour through Egypt, Syria and Jordan.
