CABOCUBAJAZZ QUINTET PRESENTS PABLO MARTÍNEZ
Friday17 November 2017

In an inimitable way, the international ensemble CaboCubaJazz blends the melancholy of the Cape Verdean Islands with a generous portion of sweeping Cuban rumba, salsa and adventurous jazz. The band introduces one of Spain’s leading young trombonists, Pablo Martínez. Classically trained, he is equally at home at cutting edge jazz and Cuban music and he is deeply rooted in flamenco. He won many awards and is making name with his own Pablo Martínez Flamenco-Jazz Band.

CaboCubaJazz is led by master percussionist Fischer, known from Timbazo and Cubop City Big Band and Nueva Manteca, and by pianist Carlos Matos, ambassador for Cape Verdean music in Europe. The musicians, including singer Dina Medina, originate from, among others, Cuba, Venezuela and Cape Verde. Following rave reviews for their albums Rikeza y Valor and Corsano Africano, the band made successful appearances at, among others, Havana Jazz Festival and North Sea Jazz.

‘A grooving blend of exciting question-and-answer vocals, sensual melodies and pleasant vocal harmonies, freshened up with strong arrangements and improvisation.’ (de Volkskrant).

‘Seductive, inspirational, passionate!’ (Latin Beat Magazine).

‘Wonderful, heartwarming music and a party at the same time, super tight rhythm and inimitable virtuosity.’  (Jazzism magazine)

Dina Medina vocals, Carlos Matos piano, Yerman Aponte bass, Nils Fischer congas/percussion, Armando Vidal drums/vocals
