VPRO Jazz presents a weekend long survey of the contemporary state of Dutch Jazz and Improvisational Music. All concerts will be broadcast live on Radio 6 and can be viewed live via an internet videostream. Programming, Presentation and interviews: Vera Vingerhoeds. New Niks and Artvark SQ join forces for the concert Busy, Busy, Busy. Both Rotterdam-based quartets will play separate sets, after which they will share the stage for the finale. New Niks is the bassless quartet of Arend Niks (Corrie van Binsbergen, Nenettes et les Zezettes), whose witty compositions bring to mind soundtrack themes, cartoons and the virtuoso exuberance of Frank Zappa and Raymond Scott. ‘Exceptionally attractive’ (NRC).
