BURTON GREENE / ROY CAMPBELL QUARTET
Roy Campbell-trumpet, Burton Greene-piano, Adam Lane-bass, Lou Grassi-drums
In the 60’s, pianist Burton Greene (1937) was involved in the early New York free jazz experiments of the notorious ESP record label. The New York trumpet player Roy Campbell (1952) was a student of Kenny Dorham and Lee Morgan. In a later stage of his career he worked with big names like Sun Ra, Henry Threadgill, Woody Shaw and Eddie Harris. Momentarily he has a lot of success with Marc Ribot’s Spiritual Unity. About their quartet with bass player Adam Lane and drummer Lou Grassi, All About Jazz wrote: ‘a nearly ideal balance between free improvisation and more structured jazz, while also drawing on some notable world music influences.’
