The Wig label celebrates its 25th anniversary with a meeting between American pianist Dave Burrell, viola player Ig Henneman and reeds player Ab Baars.

The 25th anniversary of the Wig label is celebrated with a special concert and a CD recording. Ig Henneman and Ab Baars, artistic directors of the label, have invited the legendary American pianist Dave Burrell for an entirely improvised trio concert, a première. Dave Burrell operates in the area in which a strong traditional approach and the freedom of the avant-garde operate as the extremes of one unique view. Baars and Henneman feel strong affinity with this open attitude. And coincidentally, the new CD will be the 25th release on Wig.

Viola player Ig Henneman and multi-reedist Ab Baars have been playing together since the 1980s. As separate band leaders they are leading voices in the world of Dutch jazz and improvisation.Their Wig label represents a variety of national and international musicians. Dave Burrell fits wonderfully in the Wig history. As a pioneer of the 1960s New York avant-garde he wrote history in the bands of Archie Shepp and Pharoah Sanders.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
