Dekmantel Festival, dedicated to electronic music and DJ culture,
presents the German dub/jazz duo of producer Burnt Friedman (famous for his jazz-tinged collaborations with AtomTM) en
drummer Jaki Liebezeit (Can).
Drummer Jaki Liebezeit of
German band Can is a key figure in krautrock, the progressive music
movement that also includes Kraftwerk and Neu! Liebezeit shares a
fascination for jazz and dub with Cologne-based electronica producer
Burnt Friedman. The duo has been active for 15
years and has collaborated with, among others, David Sylvian.
DEKMANTEL FESTIVAL
August 5 to 7 the Amsterdam music label Dekmantel organizes the
fourth edition of the internationally acclaimed Dekmantel Festival in
the ‘Amsterdamse Bos’, with electronic (dance) music as well as acts
which have influenced contemporary DJ culture. The day before, on August
4, the festival opening will take place at four venues alongside the IJ
river: Bimhuis, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, Eye Film Museum and Tolhuistuin
(Paradiso Noord).
The line-up on the opening night of Dekmantel Festival 2016 includes performances by, among others, avant-garde electronica pioneers Cabaret Voltaire, Brazilian jazz trio Azymuth, electronica artist James Holden and afrobeat legend Tony Allen. The Bimhuis will host performances by Alessandro Cortini and the duo Burnt Friedman & Jaki Liebezeit.
Each of these acts has had an important influence on contemporary DJ culture. Dekmantel aims to explore the roots and branches of high-quality electronic music and considers DJ culture as a vital art form deserving more recognition from the general audience.
