BUIKA
La Noche mas larga
Buika zang, Ivan ‘Melon’ Lewis piano/toetsen, Ramon Porrina cajón/percussie
With her husky African voice Concha Buika causes a sensation in the worlds of flamenco, jazz and pop. As a child of African refugees she landed in Mallorca, where she became part of the close-knit flamenco world of the local Roma. She shares life’s joys and sorrows in her fiery performance that seems to reach everyone in the audience. ‘Buika celebrates all the incarnations of passion, from the most glowing to the darkest’, said director Pedro Almodóvar, who had her appear her in his movie La Piel que habito. Buika has collaborated with a wide range of artists, from jazz pianist Chick Corea to pop singer Nelly Furtado and sitar player Anoushka Shankar.
