The band name speaks volumes. The meeting between two members from The Bad Plus and two seasoned improvisers from New York can be compared to a furious clash. Heavy grooves are alternated with risky sound experiments. Saxophone player Tim Berne and cello player Hank Roberts have played together in Miniature. Pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer David King are currently successful with their trio The Bad Plus. ‘The Buffalos veer from fragmented abstraction to near-funky Philly grooving, working on engaging tension between the two traits’ (All About Jazz).
