BUD SHANK QUARTET

The Bud Shank of today is much more than the legendary West Coast alto player with his recognizable cool sound. In the mid 80’s he quit studio work and locked up his flute to fully dedicate himself to the alto saxophone which resulted in the development of a more open and contemporary style as opposed to his soft and melodic approach in the 50’s. Aged 78, Shank, who did a surprising duet with Misha Mengelberg a few years back, is a more adventurous soloist than ever before.
