With the spicy crossover jazz on the debut album Area 51 the Bruinsma Syndicaat places itself in the tradition of Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra. The four musicians, including guitarist Jesse van Ruller, play compositions by band leader Jeffrey Bruinsma, winner of the Deloitte Jazz Award 2006. ‘Bruinsma is not only a virtuoso on violin, but also an imaginative composer with a broad vocabulary that encompasses pop, classical, world and jazz… complex and accessible, raw and beautiful at the same time’ (Parool).
