BRAZILIAN SUMMER SESSIONS TRIO MADEIRA BRASIL
i.c.w. A HORA DO BRASIL FOUNDATION and NPS Radio
Ronaldo do Bandolim-mandoline, Zé Paulo Becker-guitar, Marcello Gonçalves-7 string guitar
In Brazil there is not a clear borderline between traditional, classical and pop music. A good example is the choro: a virtuoso genre that was born in Rio de Janeiro at the end of the 19th century. The choro combines the harmonic progression of the European classical tradition with the ’tristesse’, swing and vitality of the young Afro-Brazilian styles like samba and bossa nova. Mandoline player Ronaldo do Bandolim (1950) recorded with Chico Buarque and Marisa Monte, a.o.. Zé Paulo Becker (1968) made a name as a classical guitarist before he surrendered to choro. In Brazil, Marcello Gonçalves (1972) is seen as one of the most interesting young maestros on the 7-string guitar. The NPS will make radio recordings during this concert, which will be broadcasted in the program ‘In concert passaat’ on tuesday October 30st by Radio 6 at 10PM.
