Singer, dancer and percussionist Mart’Nalia from Rio de Janeiro is the daughter of Martinho da Vila, who, along with Caetano Veloso and Baden Powell, is considered one of the innovators of samba. Her unforced alto and her natural stage presence underscore her innate talent for Afro-Brazilian music, from sunny dance songs to intimate ballads. “Her sambas make it seem as if every pleasure or sorrow can be handled with grace.” (The New York Times).
