BRASIL RENATO BORGHETTI QUARTETO
in collaboration with NPS Radio
Renato Borghetti-accordion (gaita ponto), Daniel de Sa Leite-guitar, Vitor Peixoto-piano, Pedro Figueiredo-sax, flute
The roots of the members of the Renato Borghetti Quarteto lie in the ‘gauchos’ of Rio Grande do Sul, in southernmost Brazil, on the border with Argentina. Bandleader Borghetti plays the gaita ponto, a kind of button accordion, that sounds fuller and deeper than a standard accordion. He makes his own unique blend of traditional styles such as milonga, chacarera and chamame, with elements from pop, jazz, fado and tango. Last year the group were a smash hit at Tilburg’s Paradox venue during the Festival Accordeonslag. ‘Borghetti and co. provided fireworks galore.’ (Jazzenzo.nl).
