BOUCALÉ!

PLAYS THE MUSIC OF PAUL TERMOS

Michiel Scheen piano/arrangements, Wolter Wierbos trombone, Raoul van der Weide bass/crackle box/sound objects, Michael Vatcher drums

Composer, alto saxophone player and improviser Paul Termos (1952-2003) wrote lively, infectious music of deceptive simplicity. Often, he deliberately steered towards ‘composed misunderstandings’, with angular turns, grotesque effects and improvisational confusion. The band Boucalé! was founded as a tribute to the inspired, lyrical genius, who kept searching for the tension between light-heartedness and depth. Pianist Michael Scheen arranged three works by Termos that will be performed for the very first time. Aside from those works the group will play such improvisational pieces as Pok, Bokkenrijder and For Sandy Nelson.
