BOUBACAR TRAORÉ

They call him the king of African blues in his homeland of Mali; singer and guitarist Boubacar Traoré scored big hits in the 1960s by crossing American popular music with African and Arabic rhythms. After the 1968 military coup he retreated from the music scene. Not until the 1980s he made his comeback with a unique, intimate brand of folk blues. Traoré will also play songs from his new CD Mali Denhou, which will be released on the Lusafrica label in February. ‘Boubacar Traoré is a revelation… A plaintive evocative voice which stretches and climbs over threads of melody’ (The Guardian).Further information forthcoming
