Boundless curiosity defines the music of the duo Boi Akih. Since 1997, singer Monica Akihary and guitarist-composer Niels Brouwer have been exploring new paths together, drawing inspiration from jazz and the musical traditions of the Moluccas, India and Africa. They are always looking for new forms, seamlessly merging catchy songs with free improvisation.

Monica Akihary sings in English and Haruku – the language of the Moluccan island where her father was born. With her warm, vibrant vocals and fearless expressivity, Monica is an enchanting performer; it is no surprise she was awarded the Boy Edgar Award, the Netherlands’ highest jazz award, in 2023. Niels is a fascinating improviser on the seven-string classical guitar. Their unmistakable chemistry makes for a spellbinding experience.

Outdoor concert
This Terrace Concert is an outdoor event. The sun can be intense and the wind can be quite strong near the water, so come prepared. In the event of unfavourable weather conditions, the performance will be held indoors in the Entrance Hall, which overlooks the river IJ.
