Boi Akih is first and foremost a duo. Monica Akihary sings in the language of her ancestors, who came from the Moluccas, specifically the island Haruku. The songs of Akihary and her partner Niels Brouwer reveal influences of jazz, raga and flamenco, among others. The duo regularly extends its line-up, this time with double bassist Ernst Glerum and drummer Owen Hart Jr. Boi Akih has released two CDs on the renowned record label Enja. ‘Akihary’s voice is very colourful, especially in the lower registers.
