BOI AKIH CIRCLES

AFTERWARDS: DJ MOMBASA

Monica Akihary zang/gitaar, Niels Brouwer gitaar/laptop, Wolter Wierbos trombone, Owen Hart Jr. drums, special guest: Franky Douglas

Legendary ‘songs of freedom’ by such artists as Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young are shown in a new light by Boi Akih in the program Circles. The warm, colorful voice of Monica Akihary and the inventive guitar playing of Niels Brouwer form the basis of the group.

Boi Akih has a completely original style, in which jazz coalesces with flamenco, Moluccan music and imaginative improvisations. A regular collaborator is trombonist and Boy Edgar Prize winner Wolter Wierbos, ‘a total player, with outrageous facility and an inquiring mind’ (Downbeat). The band is rounded out by drummer Owen Hart, Jr.

‘Fabulous singing and masterful guitar playing coming from its own universe’ (de Volkskrant).

Afterwards DJ Mombasa at the café.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
