BOI AKIH
LIQUID SONGS
Monica Akihary voice, Tobias Klein (contra) bass clarinet, Niels Brouwer guitar, Ryoko Imai (Asian and Western) percussion
Stories in music, with a unique line-up: vocals, guitar, bass clarinet and Asian and Western percussion. ‘Fabulous… coming from its own universe’ (de Volkskrant).
Liquid Songs, the new project by Boi Akih, is all about the rediscovery and reinvention of ancient sacred tales from the Moluccan archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, about keeping these stories alive and relevant to current times. Four musicians with an immense diversity in temperaments will perform the music in a completely original line-up.
Ryoko Imai has a background in classical and Asian percussion. With her gift of choosing the right moment she corresponds fluently with guitarist Niels Brouwer, who uses his instrument melodically as well as texturally and percussively. Monica Akihary’s characteristic alto voice interacts with the deep wooden sounds of Tobias Klein on clarinet and bass clarinet.
Liquid Songs is a lively, fluent conversation with a rich diversity in temperaments, backgrounds, experience, colors and characters. This is especially evident in the personal tales and sounds of vocalist Monica Akihary. Her voice connects the Melanesian part of the Pacific Ocean with the delta of the Dutch lowlands.
