BOBBY FEW QUINTET
Rasul Siddik-trumpet, Jon Handelsman-saxophones, clarinet, Bobby Few-piano, Harry Swift-bass, Ichiro Onoéon-drums
He was a member of the Frank Wright Quartet and accompanied Albert Ayler on his ‘Music is the Healing Force of the Universe’, but above all pianist Bobby Few is an ‘American in Paris’ since 1969, known for the ‘poly free’ music of Steve Lacy (he played in his sextet for ten years). Needless to say, Few’s oeuvre consists of a lot more than just free explorations. He points out Errol Garner and Cecil Taylor as his source of inspiration and uses his classical background to harmonically direct his compositions. Soul, blues and church music are the roots of this remarkable, yet underestimated piano stylist.
