BIMLAB Curated by Benjamin Herman & Marc van Vugt

Benjamin Herman certainly counts as a Dutch jazz icon. As the founder of New Cool Collective he actively seeks collaboration with singers, poets, rappers and musicians from all genres. ‘Herman is an alto saxophonist with a penchant for hyperkinetic jazz, not to mention a wicked sense of humor’ (Downbeat).

Marc van Vugt has proven himself as a guitarist who surprises in every setting, in his own band Big Bizar Habit and duo with singer/pianist Ineke van Doorn, as a guest soloist with Metropole Orchestra and Nederlands Kamerkoor (Dutch Chamber Choir) and alongside great wind instrument players such as Thomas Chapin, Robin Eubanks and Eric Vloeimans.

BIMLAB is an improv series in the BIMHUIS café with unexpected musical encounters. For every edition, two curators are selected from the members of the Union of Dutch Improvisers (BIM), who were once the BIMHUIS founders. The curators will invite musicians for an evening of short, adventurous sessions.
