BIMlab

Jacko Schoonderwoerd bass, Ziv Taubenfeld bassclarinet + guests

BIMLAB is an improv series at the BIMHUIS café with unexpected musical encounters. Unbeknown to each other, two curators are selected from various corners of the jazz and improvised music scene for every edition. They will invite other musicians for an evening of short, adventurous sessions. At every edition they will give a free interpretation of one composition from the Dutch jazz canon. Curators for this edition are Jacko Schoonderwoerd and Ziv Taubenfeld.

Jacko Schoonderwoerd is a household name in the Dutch jazz circuit. As a double bassist he played an important role in the ensembles of composer Sean Bergin. He played with American greats such as Curtis Clark, Fay Victor and Paul Stocker, and he collaborated with countless established improv artists including Michael Moore and Jaap Blonk. Sunday afternoons he leads jam sessions at Café De Engelbewaarder in Amsterdam, together with pianist Leo Bouwmeester and drummer Victor de Boo.

Bass clarinet is the main instrument of Ziv Taubenfeld, who grew up in Israel. In The Netherlands he studied with Michael Moore and became active in the Amsterdam jazz and improvised music scene. He previously performed at the BIMHUIS with his ensemble Full Sun and with the bands Plots and Bones. ‘Ziv Taubenfgeld improvises in a very playful manner. His bass clarinet van be either lighthearted without avoiding its deep sonority. He makes everything sound effortless and bright’ (Vera Vingerhoeds).
