BIMLAB 37 CURATED BY DODÓ KIS & MIKE DEL FERRO
Monday28 January 2019

BIMLAB is an improv series in the BIMHUIS café with unexpected musical encounters. For every edition, two curators are selected from the members of the Union of Dutch Improvisers (BIM), who were once the BIMHUIS founders. The curators will invite musicians for an evening of short, adventurous sessions. For this edition the curators are recorder player Dodó Kis and pianist Mike del Ferro.

Dodó Kis is one of the pioneers on the recorder in the field of live electronics and free improvisation. She tries to shift both her own boundaries and those of the public. In addition, she plays in various bands on the electronic wind instrument EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument), such as the experimental funk-rock band Jerboah. The originally Hungarian musician is also part of aXolot, a recorder trio that immerses itself in classical, contemporary and folk music, theater and improvisation.

For many years the Dutch pianist, composer and arranger Mike del Ferro has performed as a soloist and band leader and with such celebrities as Jack DeJohnette, Randy Brecker and Toots Thielemans. He has performed in over 100 countries, which led music label Challenge to commission him to record a series of albums with the common theme of ‘songs inspired by wandering the globe’, featuring collaborations with various international artists.
