Saxophonist and composer Jorrit Dijkstra has been living the United States since 2002 because of his affinity with the experimental forces of American music. Since then he has created a lively exchange with the jazz and improvised music scene in Amsterdam, where he came from. He teaches at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, he runs the label Driff and leads several bands including The Whammies featuring Han Bennink.
At this moment, Jamie Peet is one of the most promising drummers in The Netherlands. He plays with rapper Pete Philly, he’s in Glerum Omnibus led by ICP’s bassist Ernst Glerum and he’s part of Dominic J. Marshall’s band. ‘Put him behind the drum kit and expect cheerful lashes, unexpected turns, odd meters and lightning fast responses to everything he hears and sees’ (de Slagwerkkrant).
BIMLAB is an improv series in the BIMHUIS café with unexpected musical encounters. For every edition, two curators are selected from the members of the Union of Dutch Improvisers (BIM), who were once the BIMHUIS founders. The curators will invite musicians for an evening of short, adventurous sessions.
A co-production with BIM, free entrance for BIM members.
