BIMLAB 29 – CURATED BY ALEX COKE & WIEK HIJMANS

Alex Coke fluiten/sax, Wiek Hijmans gitaar, Raphael Vanoli gitaar, Arjen Gorter bas

Saxophonist Alex Coke and guitarist Wiek Hijmans are the curators of
this edition of BIMLAB, the concert series with improvisations in the
Bimhuis café.

In The Netherlands saxophonist and flutist Alex
Coke is best known as a former member of the Willem Breuker Kollektief,
with which he toured all over the world in the 1990s. Back then he lived
in Amsterdam, after which he returned to Austin, Texas. As an
improviser he developed a diverse taste, from bop to raga and from
Leadbelly to Eric Dolphy.

Electric guitarist Wiek Hijmans is a
known performer of contemporary classical music, combining classical
techniques with influences from jazz, rock and improvised music.
Renowned composer such as Christian Wolff and Theo Loevendie have
written solo works for him and he performed with, among others,
ASKO|Schönberg, L.A. Chamber Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra. At
the Bimhuis he can be heard regularly as a member of the David
Kweksilber Big Band.

BIMLAB is an improv series in the Bimhuis
café with unexpected musical encounters. For every edition, two curators
are selected from the members of the Union of Dutch Improvisers (BIM),
who were once the Bimhuis founders. The curators will invite musicians
for an evening of short, adventurous sessions.

A co-production with BIM, free entrance for BIM members.
Cafe and box office open at 21:00 (restaurant closed).
