BIMLAB 16

Curators: Kristina Fuchs stem, Frans Vermeerssen sax

Kristina Fuchs stem/zang, Frans Vermeerssen sax, Mick Paauwe bas, Tatiana Koleva vibrafoon/percussie

BIMLAB is an improv series in the Bimhuis café with unexpected musical encounters. Two curators are selected for every edition from the members of the Union of Dutch Improvisers (BIM), who were once the Bimhuis founders. The curators will invite musicians for an evening of short, adventurous sessions.

Kristina Fuchs has a remarkably versatile voice. The Swiss-born singer has been living in The Netherlands since 1992. Aside from jazz she has performed eccentric versions of Swiss folk songs, among many other things. For her band Sonic Unit she composes music which touches on jazz as well as new music in the European classical tradition. Kristina Fuchs has collaborated with among others Eric Vloeimans and Theo Loevendie.

Tenor saxophonist Frans Vermeerssen is co-founder of the band Talking Cows, which aims to bridge jazz composition and improvised music. In the 1970s and 80s he played an important role to the jazz scene of Groningen, for example with his band All Ears. He was a member of well-known Dutch ensembles such as Contraband and Willem Breuker Kollektief.

A co-production with BIM, free entrance for BIM members.
