BIMLAB is an improv series in the Bimhuis café with unexpected musical encounters. Two curators are selected for every edition from the members of the Union of Dutch Improvisers (BIM), who were once the Bimhuis founders. The curators will invite musicians for an evening of short, adventurous sessions. Trumpet player Gijs Levelt and guitarist Jacq Palinckx are the curators for this edition.
Gijs Levelt is the trumpet player with Amsterdam Klezmer Band and co-founder of Spinifex, with which he expresses his fascination for South Indian music as well as jazzcore and metal.
Guitarist/composer Jacq Palinckx has been leading bands since the 1970s. With his groups he performs his collage-like music which touches on avant-jazz and art-rock, and which has lots of room for improvisation.
