BILLY HART QUARTET FEAT. ETHAN IVERSON, MARK TURNER & BEN STREET

AFTERWARDS DJ ALVIZ AT THE CAFE

Mark Turner tenorsax, Ethan Iverson piano, Ben Street bas, Billy Hart drums

Today’s jazz heroes shine in the band of 75 year-old drummer Billy Hart, who has collaborated with the likes of Otis Redding, Herbie Hancock en Miles Davis.

Billy Hart, ‘one of the most thoughtful and accomplished drummers still working’ (BBC), owes his reputation to his collaborations with legendary artists such as Otis Redding, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis. The 75 year-old percussionist plays his own compositions with today’s jazz heroes, saxophone player Mark Turner (Fly), pianist Ethan Iverson (The Bad Plus) en double bassist Ben Street. Since 2003 the quartet has been performing in New York every year, always for a packed house. Their second album on the ECM label, One Is the Other, is a triumph.

‘Beautifully crafted… Filled with spontaneity that will appeal to aficionados and the open-minded, Hart’s quartet expertly turns melodic somersaults’ (The Guardian).

‘Freedom, discipline, daring, passion, swing, broken rhythm, orchestral textures, interactive sparring, shocking dynamics, astounding creativity and authority. Want to know what jazz is really about? Listen to Billy Hart’ (Detroit Free Press).
